Seven Deadly Sins capitalizes on the fear that unleashing true sexual feelings might result in moral or religious retribution -- and uses it to create one of the best films of 1999, with stellar editing, great camera work and unrivaled sex. Each of seven segments focuses on one sin and ends with the sinner punished or driven mad, but the guilt and shame overtones only serve to drive the sexual tension to a fever pitch. The seamless, flawless "Envy" features Janine having sex with herself (actually a stunt double), and "Lust" revolves around a sexually-frenzied woman who imagines getting it from everyone she encounters; of the seven, "Anger," with its verbally abusive overtones, proves the most challenging.
